medieval tome grimoire book by oldsoulmasquer medieval tome grimoire book by oldsoulmasquer
A sketch book I made for myself, inspired by medieval tomes and grimoires. I am still working on the " lock mechanism. "

I dismantled 3 commercially available sketchbooks for the paper to make this.

Dimensions:
14.5 inches (36.8 cm) tall, 11.5 inches (29.2 cm) wide and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) thick.

Love the clasps, really original considering there is no more book clasps available commercially in our days of iBooks. Nice job!

Drawings of all sorts. I am still liking my manticore drawing so I am thinking perhaps a "beastiary" section to start with.

Thanks, heh. right now I am a bit bogged down with "professional work". I need to get a set design done with all the associated paperwork within the next week or 2.

It's so pretty, but I doubt I'd have the skill to put it together XD

For me the hardest part is judging the amount of glue to use putting the pages back into the book. If you use too much it turns all wrinkly on you. Too little and it falls apart.

If you are thinking of trying, my recommendation is to get the cheapest hardback book you can, cut the cover off and try re-assembling. Just like science class and dissection, taking a book apart and putting it back together tells you more than any advice. =)

Pretty =3
How'd you make it? And what exactly do you plan on using it for?

Thank you. I plan on using it as a sketch book for more completed ideas (no doodling)since all the pages are blank =) The short version of how I made it - 1.) remove the covers (everything but the pages)from all 3 sketch books I bought. 2.) sew the groups of pages (called signatures) together 3.) make a new cover with card stock salvaged from the old books- and a new, wider spine 4.) cover with leather and decorations. 5.) glue pages into new book.

If enough people are interested I may try to put together a tutorial on it.
